The short version. The app does its work entirely on your device — every calculation, including the live camera. It has no account and no login. What it does send is crash reports and a small set of usage events to Google Firebase, so that faults on real phones are visible to us; that can be turned off in Settings, and turning it off stops collection rather than merely hiding it. There are no banners and no interstitials: the only advertising is a rewarded video you can choose to watch, and you will never see one unless you ask for it. This website loads Google Analytics only if you press Allow.

What the app stores, and where

Everything below is stored only on your device, in the app's own storage, and is deleted when you uninstall the app:

None of it is transmitted anywhere by the app.

Camera

The live camera processes frames on your device, in memory, to show you what a lure would look like underwater. Frames are never uploaded and never written to disk unless you press the capture button, at which point the image is saved to your own photo library and nowhere else.

The app requests add-only access to your photo library. It cannot read your existing photos and does not ask to.

Purchases

If you buy anything, the transaction is handled by Apple or Google. We never see your payment details. The app asks the store what you own so it can unlock the right content; that exchange is between your device and the store.

Premium is an annual subscription, so that question is asked again over time — the app needs to know whether it is still active. That is the only reason, it is still a question put to the store about your own account, and the answer is a list of product identifiers. It carries no payment details and no name.

Advertising

You will only ever see an ad if you deliberately tap "watch an ad". There are no banners, no interstitials, and nothing that appears unasked. Watching one unlocks a species for 24 hours; not watching one costs you nothing except that unlock.

Ads are served by Google AdMob and are requested as non-personalised only. The app does not build a profile of you, does not use the iOS advertising identifier (IDFA) and does not present Apple's App Tracking Transparency prompt, because it does not track you across apps or websites.

Because AdMob is present, the Android build declares the advertising ID permission (AD_ID) and Google may receive that identifier when an ad is requested — used for frequency capping and fraud prevention, not to target you. Android's own settings let you reset it or opt out of it entirely, and the app keeps working either way.

On iPhone and iPad there is no equivalent, because the app never asks for the IDFA: there is no advertising identifier for anyone to receive. It does declare Apple's SKAdNetwork identifiers, which let Apple credit an install to an ad campaign without telling anyone — including us — who you are.

In the EEA and the UK, consent is gathered through Google's certified consent platform when the app first opens, before any ad is requested. You are asked once: the answer is stored on your device, so the dialog does not come back on later launches. Google can ask again only if a consent expires or its list of ad partners changes materially, and outside those regions you are never asked at all. An "Ad privacy options" control appears in Settings wherever the platform requires one, and that is where you change your mind.

This used to happen at the moment you tapped "watch an ad" instead, so that someone who never watched one was never asked. Asking at launch is the more conventional arrangement and the one Google documents; the cost, stated plainly, is that you now see the dialog whether or not you ever intend to watch an ad.

Crash reporting and usage analytics, in the app

The app uses Firebase Crashlytics and Firebase Analytics, both from Google. Crashlytics reports crashes so a fault on a real phone is visible to us instead of silent. Analytics records which parts of the app get used. Both can be switched off in Settings → Crash reports and usage, which calls the SDKs' own setCollectionEnabled(false) — collection stops at the source, not just at our call sites.

The events sent are the complete list, and there are no others:

That last one exists because the AdMob account and the Firebase project are linked, which is what lets an ad's earnings be read against the screen it was watched from instead of arriving as one monthly total. Google's ads SDK reports it directly; there is nothing about you in it, and switching analytics off in Settings stops it along with the rest. It is listed because the list above is meant to be complete, not merely to cover what we wrote.

The depth band is deliberate. A precise depth, with a water type and a time, starts to describe where somebody fishes, and that is not something this app has any business accumulating. Nothing you type is sent, no location is read or sent, and none of it is linked to a name, an email or an account, because the app has none.

The app and this website report to the same Google Analytics property. They used to report to two, which meant one visitor was counted twice; that is fixed, and it changes nothing about what is collected — only where it is read.

Google receives, alongside these events, the technical information its SDKs collect by default: an app-instance identifier, the device model, the operating-system version and the country. The app-instance identifier is a random string generated on your device; it is not tied to you, and Settings shows it so you can quote it if you ask us to delete what has been sent.

On iPhone and iPad, Google’s analytics SDK also records Apple’s identifier for vendors (IDFV). It is not the advertising identifier: Apple gives each developer a different one on each device, so it cannot recognise you in anyone else’s apps, and it resets when every app from the same developer is removed from the device. It is used only to count devices, never to target ads.

Analytics on this website

This site can use Google Analytics 4 (property G-ET62MMCYGV), and only if you press Allow on the banner. Until then — and forever, if you decline — the tag is not downloaded at all, not merely left idle; you can confirm that in your browser's network panel. Google's advertising signals and ad personalisation are switched off: the site shows no advertising and builds no remarketing audience. The site works identically either way, and declining is one press in the same place, at the same size, as accepting.

Your choice is kept in your browser's local storage, on your device. It is not a cookie and is never transmitted. You can change it at any time:

The site's events are, in full, and only after you have pressed Allow: the page you are on; a click on an Amazon link, with the lure colour or the piece of gear, its position in the table and which Amazon store you were sent to; a click on the app-store badge; and a change of language, with the language you chose.

The calculator runs entirely in your browser — every calculation, the same code the app uses. The values you choose are put in the page's own URL so you can share a result. If you have allowed analytics, a record of the combination is sent: the species, the water, the light, the viewing angle, and the depth as a range, the same 0–1, 1–3, 3–6, 6–12 and over-12-metre bands the app uses, for the same reason.

The exact depth in the URL never reaches Google. The five calculator values are stripped from the address before the measurement leaves your browser, so what is recorded is /en/calculator/ and the coarse combination above — not the link you could share. Nothing else on the site embeds a third party.

Children

The app is not directed at children and collects no personal information from anyone.

Your rights

Your fishing conditions, tackle box, favourites and purchase record never leave your device; uninstalling the app removes all of it, and there is nothing for us to hold or export.

For the diagnostic data that does go to Google: you can stop it in Settings at any time, and you can ask us to delete what has already been sent by writing to the address on the store listing. Because the events carry no name, no email and no account, we will need the app instance identifier shown in Settings to find them. You may also complain to your data protection authority — in Spain, the Agencia Española de Protección de Datos.

Changes

If what the app or this site collects changes, this page changes in the same release — not after it. The date at the top is the date of the last change.
